Students like senior Fred Martinez think civics exam is needed push
“A lot of kids don’t really take our American democracy classes seriously when they probably should, because it’s important to be informed Americans, especially about politics,” Martinez said.
Martinez is preparing to study court law at UW — a dream he knows not everyone has, but a knowledge of government he hopes all students will have before graduating.
“For me, it was all about being informed because I don’t want to go into the public and be clueless. I want to make it seem like I can make an impact in the community and be able to vote and be informed of who I’m voting for. I think it’s important to develop your own political ideology,” he said.
